Zuke's: Fueling the Love

We've joined the Event Barkers to help share Zuke's USA made products and company goals so this week I'll be introducing you to the brand and the treats they offer culminating in a big giveaway for 15 full size bags of their popular, healthy treats this Friday, November 15th.

Who is Zukes?

It all started with one man and one dog. In 1995 Patrick Meiering was on a hike in the Colorado Mountains with his Labrador Retreiver, Zuke. Noticing Zuke had become exhausted, Patrick broke off a piece of his energy bar and tossed it to him. Zuke perked right up and the rest, as they say, is history!

Realizing pets need healthy, all-natural treats, Patrick set out to provide just that and a company was born. Zuke's is located in Durango, Colorado and all of the meat, fruit, and veggies are sourced from the USA with the exception of the rabbit and venison which come from New Zealand.  Just like I do with my recipes, they test the "tastiness" of the treats by feeding them to their own pets and dogs at veterinary hospitals and humane societies.

In The News

In August, 2013, Zuke's was named one of the Top 25 Most Innovative Consumer Brands that are dedicated to changing the way consumers live their lives through new ideas and real innovation.  Zuke's was also a sponsor of the 2013 Hero Dog Awards.

Zuke's Gives Back

The Dog and Cat Cancer Fund (www.dccfund.org) was created in 2007 by Patrick and his brother Chris in memory of their childhood dog and Zuke, both who succumbed to canine cancer.  A portion of Zuke’s sales is donated annually to this fund. The total amount to date is more than $175,000 which has helped increase the annual grant amount per pet from $700 in 2007 to $1200 in 2011 and most recently to $1500 in 2013 with estimates that they will be able to help a record 100 pets this year alone up from 42 in 2011 and 69 in 2012. Since its inception, the DCCFund has helped a total of 250 dogs and cats nationwide.  “We invest in this organization because we passionately believe that the ability to pay one’s vet bills shouldn’t be a factor in giving pets a fighting chance against this terrible disease.”

Want to help without spending a dime? Just tag an Instagram photo or video of your dog in motion and post it with the hashtag #FueltheCure. Zuke’s will donate $5 to the DCCF (up to $10,000) for each one.
