Solvit's PupStep Pet Stairs Review & Giveaway

We are huge fans of Solvit who's slogan is "No Pet Left Behind". Solvit has been helping pets spend more time with their humans by providing high quality products for travel, active life, therapeutic and senior care.

We highly recommend their products because we use their products. Kirby has Solvit's Pet Safety Seat which is easy to install or remove, lets him see out the windows, and gives him his own safe space.  We easily pack everything he needs in his Solvit Homeaway Travel Organizer whenever we travel whether for just a day or several days. These are quality products that are not only quite stylish but made to last a lifetime.

The pup steps are just as amazing and are the perfect size for couches, beds, and even getting in vehicles. Not only are they practical and able to fit any decor, they can be easily personalized with just a little imagination.

Need to train your pup to use Pet stairs?

I've trained Kirby, and each of our fosters, within less than five minutes. All you have to do is show them a treat or fave toy and place it on the bed. Next walk them up the steps while securely holding them, then clap your hands and say "yea" when they reach the bed to retrieve the treat or toy. Do this three or four times as if it were a game and they'll catch on very quickly. One of our past fosters, Dobby, loved this game so much that he would carry his chicken toy up onto the bed and throw it off the other side, then run down the steps to grab his chicken. He would repeat this several times almost every night. (Kirby, whom Dobby forbade to touch the chicken, would just watch him and then proceed onto the bed when he was done.)

PupSTEP+Plus pet stairs

These lightweight durable plastic steps weigh only 5 lbs yet they can support over 120 lbs. There is no assembly required, they fold down for easy storage and can be cleaned with a mild household cleaner. Safety side rails are built into the design so your pet can climb up and down with confidence. They are made with non-skid feet however I do recommend placing them on non-skid rugs over tile or wood floors to prevent sliding if your dog jumps, or pushes off, onto the furniture from that last step. The stairs are covered by a one year warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

Solvit also makes the PupSTEP Lite pet stairs which is a 3 lb version that can support up to 70 lbs and the PupSTEP Plus XL pet stairs which at 9 lbs are wider and taller to support over 200 lbs.

We have owned and used this one for almost six years so Kirby can get up and down my high bed. It's a vanilla look which means it can blend in with any decor.  Since we received the wood PupSteps I decided it would be fun to redo these for a little more oomph since I wanted to move them to his playroom. It's the perfect height for Kirby to look out his window (we plan to make a wood perch this summer).

I simply removed the pads, popped off the back piece, and spray painted it with two coats of Valspar Premium Finish "Encounter". When it was dry I snapped the back piece into place, put the pads back on, and for a bit of whimsy, I added the paw print decals

Solvit’s PupSTEP Wood Stairs

These beautiful wooden pet stairs come in two sizes, Large for small to medium size pets and Extra Large for larger pets or those needing access to tall beds. Just like the durable plastic PupSTEPS there is no assembly required and they fold down for easy storage. Safety side rails are built into the design so your pet can climb up and down with confidence.  Solvit calls it a walnut finish but I would say it is more of a cherry finish, either way it is quite gorgeous.

This is the one we received to review, and although I do like the cherry finish, rather than making a statement I wanted them to blend in with my bedroom furniture which is a dark finish. I didn't want to replace the felt covering the treads so I covered them with masking tape. I then lightly sanded all of the wood stain and re-stained it with two coats of Minwax Wood Finishing Cloths in walnut.  Next I cut a large piece of heavy duty self-stick vinyl tile flooring (less than $3 at Lowe's) to cover the risers which I can easily replace at a later date if I so choose.

If you want to make a dramatic statement be sure to check out Kol's Notes fabulous re-do where Jodi painted the wood, replaced the felt, and tiled the risers to match her living room. Absolutely beautiful!
