Who Is CARU?
Caru which means “to love” in Welsh, was founded in 2010 by Pamela and Adrian Pettyan, two Canadian medical professionals in close collaboration with an accomplished animal Ph.D. nutritionist. It all started when a veterinarian suggested a homemade diet consisting of pure, healthy, nutritious food for their dog Karu (same meaning, different spelling) who suffered from constant ear infections. Today Karu is healthy and happy while we also get to benefit from his good fortune.
The Caru Stews are prepared in a human food grade facility from FDA verified human grade ingredients and are processed and handled in accordance with FDA regulations for human food without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and don’t contain any grain, wheat, gluten, corn, soy or animal by-products. They only use non-GMO ingredients and meat and poultry that are antibiotic and hormone free.
Currently their stews include Beef, Chicken, Turkey, and Pork which are prepared in small batches at a low temperature so the food has the same texture, aroma and flavor of a home cooked stew that you would make for your family.

What Did Kirby Think?
Kirby was really excited about these stews! So much that he was a bit perturbed having to pose for pictures when all he wanted to do was taste the aroma he smelled before the cartons were even opened.
Both stews clearly passed the aroma test, the visual test, and the taste test with flying colors. How do I know this? There was no hesitation as his muzzle went straight into the bowl and didn't leave until the bowls were licked spotless.
I love that Caru makes their pet foods just like I do in my kitchen with wholesome foods I can actually identify. I also very much appreciate they are in the U.S. and source all of their ingredients in the U.S. except for a handful of vitamins and minerals from Europe and/or Japan and Tapioca Starch from Thailand. Nothing is sourced from China! The Tetra Pak® cartons are easy to open, serve, and close back which makes them perfect for road trips. They’re fairly new so check this link to find a retailer in the U.S. or Canada near you. I did find it online at 1-800 Pet Supplies on sale at $53.47 for a 12 pack which breaks down to $2.23 per meal (1/2 box) for a dog Kirby's size.
Dog Food Advisor gives Caru 3 1/2 stars.
