Kirby Celebrates The Big 5

Today our sweet little guy turns 5 years old! I can't believe how time has flown since I brought this tiny precious package of unconditional love home.  I've shared so much of my daily life with him.  He's heard my joyful banter, tenderly calmed away my tears, and brought me through many dark and dreary days. He is my companion, my friend, my muse, my child.  He is most certainly not just a dog.

Together we've learned so much about canine nutrition, foster care, discipline, playtime, quiet time, and communication.  Sometimes I think he is my shadow as he seems to understand my many moods as we can communicate with just a look.  The ruling guides in my life are God and dog so I have no doubt God brought this wondrous creature into my life. I can firmly say God has my soul and Kirby has my heart.

Every dog has a purpose and I must be his.  I know I'm the one that nurtures and protects him yet he seems to do the same for me. I am blessed and honored with having the privilege of his well being which only someone who has experienced this amazing bond can attest to understanding. They say everyone has a soul mate but I say everyone has a heart dog and, Thank God, I have found mine.

So without further ado, let the celebration begin...

Kirby celebrates his 5th barkday with his Carnivorous Cake! I wanted something really special and the look in his eye told me I succeeded, if only I would hurry up with the picture taking part.  He had repeatedly licked the bacon wrapped around the meat while I implored him to wait, wait just a minute Kirby, just one more shot Kirby. I suppose he truly trusted me as it didn't seem to matter to him that there was a fire above his delectable dinner. As soon as I finished and blew out the candle...

The bacon was unwrapped and devoured in one long chew like a strand of spaghetti...

The enticing aroma of the medium rare meat filled his nostrils as he slowly licked trying to find the best place to bite into...

Knowing he could use a little help I grabbed a knife and cut the cake into more manageable bite size pieces...

Which took, oh about ten minutes max to completely devour.  Honestly, the plate was licked clean until there was not a morsel left...

He had some barkday chews but we left those for another day for fear his belly would burst.  Snuggled up in his jammies Kirby indulged in one of his favorite movies along with some snuggles and kisses...

Happy 5th Barkday sweet Kirbster! You are loved and we who know you are so very grateful for your presence in our lives. May God bless you with so many more years of love and joy and adventure!

NOTE: Since I work outside the home we actually celebrated Kirby's birthday this past Saturday which I'm sure was ok with him.
