Finally A Safe Flea Preventative That Works

I pride myself on raising healthy, green dogs. I home cook, and aside from vaccinations and heartworm preventative, Kirby lived his first five years chemical free.  We live in Mississippi which has very humid summers. This is perfect conditions for fleas.

A Little Background

Through the years we used Diatomaceous earth, various essential oils, and Dawn dish soap in the yard with excellent results  Slowly the fleas became more aggressive to the point friends in town who didn't have pets were getting fleas in their homes. Out of desperation I spread the Diatomaceous earth thickly onto every inch of flooring, into every nook and cranny and didn't vacuum for a week.  My house looked like it hadn't been dusted in years but the fleas apparently felt right at home!  I couldn't bear watching Kirby's constant scratching so I finally relented and put him back on Comfortis which I felt was the least invasive as far as chemicals go. I cringed every time I gave him that little pill of poison praying his nutrition would protect his little body.

Trifexis Almost Killed Him

A few years later I switched him to Trifexis since it combated both fleas and heartworms.  After two monthly pills I noticed Kirby's eyes had turned black, his groin area darkened, and his coat darkened on his back. Nothing in his environment or food had been changed so I knew it had to be the Trifexis.  I immediately switched him back to Comfortis. Every one I talked to from veterinarians to the company manufacturing the product said the Trifexis wouldn't cause those reactions. I knew it was the culprit and finally found an article about toxicity in dogs which said the pupils would become so enlarged as to make the eyes look black. Bingo! Anyone is free to argue all they want but I can testify that his eyes eventually regained their chocolate brown color and the strange darkening phenomenon of his groin and coat stopped happening. I thank God and the fact he was home fed meaning his body had what it needed to fight the toxicity.

Wondercide Hit The Market

A safe, natural product using cedar oil which also repels snakes. I was very excited when I read the information on their website and saw the testimonies of pet parent after pet parent touting its remarkable results. I quickly ordered the money back guaranteed kit for inside and outside.  To give this product every advantage I had both my home and yard professionally sprayed a few days before I started using it.  Following the directions it was a two week process spraying both the inside of my home and my entire yard. The third week Kirby was scratching and the flea comb revealed we had fleas.  I was grateful the company reimbursed me as promised. I know this product is working for many people but didn't for us which I blame on the humidity we have.

FleaHex Wash is Discovered

I stumbled upon Dr. Dobias, a Canadian Veterinarian, while googling something I can't remember. Checking out his FaceBook Page I saw one of his products FleaHex Wash posted as being on sale with a lot of comments testifying it worked.  I asked a few questions under the post receiving an answer from him that this product worked in Hawaii which is considered the flea capital of the world.  I had never heard that plus the fact he gave a 100% 90 day money back guarantee caused me to think, why not. I ordered the combo kit which includes the shampoo and household spray.  I wasn't completely convinced but quite hopeful.  Just like with Wondercide I had both the house and yard professionally sprayed to give it every possible chance.

The Results

It's been almost eight months with not one flea! I know I started using the products in April of 2017 because I marked it on the calendar. The first product is the wash. My dogs get a bath weekly so that wasn't any problem. They did have to learn to wait for ten minutes after being sudsed up before rinsing. They do give me the absolute saddest eyes I've ever seen.  I do find the shampoo to be a bit harder to lather up to get all the way down to the skin so I add the tiniest bit of my homemade shampoo which helps. It rinses really clean with a nice scent.

i don't wash their faces with FleaHex but I do wash their faces with my shampoo right before rinsing. (My bathroom lighting does not make for a good picture)

Let's Do The Math

Two Comfortis pills for my dogs (13 lbs and 9 lbs) costs $32 per month which comes to $384.00 for 12 months.  The FleaHex Combo costs $60 and I still have roughly one-fourth of a bottle of the shampoo plus half the spray left. That's a savings of $324!!  A second bottle of the shampoo is $40 so if I had to purchase two bottle in a year I still save $284.  Larger dogs would use much more but I feel there would still be a significant savings overall. So not only am I using a product I know is SAFE for my dogs but I'm saving a lot of money. A win-win situation!

Final Word

I trust this holistic veterinarian. I've used essential oils in the past but this shampoo has the right combination that is able to cover and soak into the skin to provide a barrier.

I'm happy! Kirby is happy! Kenzie is happy! Thank you Dr. Dobias!
