Who Is CARU?
Caru which means “to love” in Welsh, was founded in 2010 by Pamela and Adrian Pettyan, two Canadian medical professionals in close collaboration with an accomplished animal Ph.D. nutritionist. It all started when a veterinarian suggested a homemade diet consisting of pure, healthy, nutritious food for their dog Karu (same meaning, different spelling) who suffered from constant ear infections. Today Karu is healthy and happy while we also get to benefit from his good fortune.
Caru’s grain, gluten and wheat free dog treats are made with real meat, blueberries, and cranberries. The recipe bar treat flavors are Beef, Chicken, and Duck which come in 3.5 oz resealable pouches. The recipe bite treat flavors are also Beef, Chicken, and Duck which come in 4 oz resealable pouches. The treats are good for up to 45 days after opening.
Just like the stews, these treats are prepared in a human food grade facility from FDA verified human grade ingredients and are processed and handled in accordance with FDA regulations for human food without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and don’t contain any corn, soy or animal by-products. They only use non-GMO ingredients and meat and poultry that are antibiotic and hormone free.

What Did Kirby Think?
When Kirby is in his training sessions he requires the truly aromatic tasty treats or he just isn’t interested. Most commercial treats don’t motivate his taste buds but these certainly do. He enjoyed the soft, chewy texture and aroma. The bars are 1"x6" long while the bites measure 1"x1", both of which I could easily tear into tiny pieces.
Our foster girl Patches also enjoyed these treats. I wish I had a picture of training her to sit. Both dogs would face me as I gave the command. Kirby would sit and w a i t with a look of total aggravation as she learned to sit. I could almost hear him willing her to hurry up and sit so they could have their treats.
Caru uses healthy wholesome ingredients same as I do when making Kirby’s treats. They are a U.S. family owned company and source all of their ingredients in the U.S, never from China! They’re fairly new so check this link to find a retailer in the U.S. or Canada near you. I did find the bar treats online at Natural Pet Warehouse on sale at $6.49
