Who Is CANIDAE?
CANIDAE's company logo says it all: A Healthier Today for a Longer Tomorrow™. These pioneers in natural and holistic pet foods are a family owned and operated company with their own research & development center and manufacturing facility, Ethos Pet Nutrition, located in Brownwood, Texas. To get more background details on this company read our dog treat review.
CANIDAE carries two lines of dog food and treats for dogs. They also carry two lines for cats.
Life Stages makes it easy for multi dog or cat families with recipes for all breeds, ages, and sizes. The six dry choices, six canned choices, and two treat choices are made with high quality protein sources and a nutritious blend of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and herbs without fillers, antibiotics, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.
Grain Free PURE comes in four adult formulas (Elements, Land, Sky, or Sea) with your choice of dry kibble or canned and two treat choices. These are perfect for dogs of all breeds and sizes with food sensitivities. The simple gluten free recipes use only 7–10 key ingredients with fresh meat or fish as the first ingredient and whole foods like sweet potato, peas, and chickpeas. No corn, wheat, soy, antibiotics, hormones, or fillers
An added bonus for the dry kibble is what they dub HealthPLUS Solutions in Every Bite™, a trio of powerful nutrition applied to the kibble after cooking that includes probiotics for healthy digestion, antioxidants for a healthy immune system, and omega 6&3 for beautiful skin and coat.
What Are The Ingredients?
We received two cans of the Grain Free Pure dog food formulas so that’s what I want to focus on here.
The first flavor we received was the Grain Free PURE Sea with salmon and mackerel simmered in fish broth. A full can with only 396 calories is recommended for Kirby’s weight. CANIDAE also has Grain Free PURE Sea dry dog food if you want to feed a matching kibble.
The ingredients listed are salmon, fish broth, sardines, mackerel, peas, sweet potatoes, suncured alfalfa, cassia gum, carrageenan, choline chloride, guar gum, salt, minerals (calcium carbonate, dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, sodium selenite, calcium iodate), vitamins (vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, niacin supplement, calcium pantothenate, biotin, vitamin A supplement, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid).
The second flavor we received was the Life Stages Grain Free PURE Elements with lamb, turkey and chicken simmered in a lamb broth. A full can has only 442 calories. CANIDAE also has Grain Free PURE PURE Elements with Lamb Dry Dog Food if you want to feed a matching kibble.

What Did Kirby Think?
He tested the Grain Free PURE Sea first since he loves fish and seafood. The fish aroma had his undivided attention from the second I opened the can to the moment he ate. He licked the bowl clean so I gave him just a little bit more. He happily enjoyed every lick and bite. As you can see he didn't even bother to stand up but simply leaned into the bowl from his down position.
The next night he tested the Life Stages Grain Free PURE Elements. It also had a good aroma with the same result. He didn't lift his head until the bowl was empty! CANIDAE is definitely going on his commercial foods rotation list.
I like CANIDAE uses real meat with no antibiotics, hormones, or fillers. I also like they are in the U.S. Dog Food Advisor highly recommends CANIDAE Grain Free Pure canned dog foods with 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I checked and chewy.com has a case of twelve cans of the Grain Free PURE Sea for $19.99 which breaks down to $1.66 per can. The Grain Free PURE Elements is a bit higher at a case of twelve for $26.99 which breaks down to $2.25 per can. Kirby eats a small amount of kibble in the morning and a few treats throughout the day so I only have to feed him half a can for dinner which is only $0.83 to $1.13 for a meal.
