Did I hear someone say Mardi Gras?
French for Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras refers to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Many believers, especially Catholics, choose to give up certain types of luxuries as a form of penitence for approximately six weeks leading up to Easter Sunday.
I bet you thought it was just a big party with lots of beads. (I did have to take off my shirt to get my beads but I'm used to running around in just my coat)
Do you celebrate Lent? Are you giving up something special?
Happy Wordless Ash Wednesday!
