First Annual Dog Paddle

Sometimes I wish we lived in North Carolina, or maybe Florida, or even Tennessee.  It seems I'm always reading about the many activities and events they have involving dogs.  We live twenty minutes from Starkville, Mississippi which does have a dog park and an hour from Columbus, Mississippi which will have a PetSmart opening in October.  Kirby has taken rally training and agility classes but his trainer has graduated and is moving back north.  Hopefully there will be weekend classes available at the new PetSmart.  We'll sign up for them all!

We take Kirby to Eupora Lake in the summer months.  He loves to swim and play in the water.  This summer he's learning to ride on a boogie board!  It's a nice little lake but sometimes I wish we had a pool or knew someone who did.  I've read of several pool events for dogs which were just too far away.  So you can only imagine the glee I felt when I heard the news there would be a pool party in Starkville for DOGS!

Moncrief Park consists of the only dog park, a children's playground and a public swimming pool.  This is the first time a date has been set for dogs to have the opportunity to swim there.  The entrance fee is $5.00 per dog (humans get in free) with all monies going to the Oktibbeha County Humane Shelter.  The event is from 10 am to 12 noon.  We plan to be there by 9:30 sharp so we don't miss a second of the fun.  Today's a good dog day to live in Mississippi.
