I received an email from Only Natural Pet who was having a sale on their EasyRaw dehydrated dog food. It was a good sale but knowing how picky Kirby can be I decided to order a few of the 4 oz sample sizes for $2.99 each. After all, a good sale won't save me any money if he won't eat it. I ordered two sample sizes of the Beef & Sweet Potato and two sample sizes of the Turkey & Sweet Potato dehydrated dinners.
Let me explain what dehydration is in case you haven't heard of it. Dehydration is a gentle drying process that avoids the loss of nutrients that occurs while cooking at high heat, as during the manufacturing process of dry kibble or canned food. In a nutshell it gives you the convenience of a dry food without compromising the nutritional value and proven health benefits of real raw meat, vegetables, and fruit.
EasyRaw dehydrated grain free dog food is made with human-grade hormone-free, antibiotic-free USDA Inspected Turkey or USDA Inspected Beef, fruits and vegetables. There are no preservatives, fillers, artificial colors, by products, additives, synthetic vitamins & minerals. As if that isn't enough its high protein content & nutrient density makes it great for weight management,. If you know Kirby then you know he loves to eat and can get get borderline chunky.
First Kirby tested the Beef & Sweet Potato Dinner...
I love how fresh it smells and the fact I can actually see the individual ingredients. I didn't have to add anything except water since it is a complete balanced meal. Fifteen minutes to rehydrate and it was ready to eat.
Ingredients (in order by weight before dehydration) - Sweet Potatoes, USDA Beef, Celery, Carrots, Cabbage, Whole Egg, Flax Meal, Tricalcium Phosphate, Cranberries, Papaya, Pumpkin, Rosemary, Parsley, Ginger Root, Dried Alfalfa, Dried Kelp, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin D3, Vitamin A Palmitate.
Calorie Content - 480 - 500 kcal/100 grams
Kirby is a slow eater. He didn't raise his head from his bowl until he had licked it clean. In fact I couldn't get him to look up for a picture. It is on my standing order list.
A few days later Kirby tested the Turkey & Sweet Potato Dinner...
Again, just add 8 ounces of warm water then wait fifteen minutes to rehydrate...
(in order by weight before dehydration) - Sweet Potatoes, USDA Turkey, Whole Egg, Broccoli, Celery, Apples, Flax Meal, Pecans, Tricalcium Phosphate, Pumpkin, Cranberries, Basil, Dried Alfalfa, Ginger Root, Dried Kelp, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin D2.
- 480 k/cal per 100 grams
Since he only eats 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup daily a 2 lb bag costing $19.99 will feed him for at least 28 days. That's .72 cents per day for healthy food with ingredients I can actually see. Another thing I liked are that the bags have a ziplock top which means I can either mix the entire package or only a portion at a time if I prefer.
Dog Food Advisor rates this dog food with 3 1/2 stars..
Disclosure: I ordered the sample sizes of this dog food. We were not compensated in any way and this is my personal opinion of the products based on my requirements and Kirby's reaction.
